Introducing the New Mazda CX-90 from Brighton Mazda
When it comes to top-quality SUVs, Mazda has dominated both the Australian and global markets for a very long time. We’re more commonly known for producing some of the best vehicles on the road, particularly, for our Mazda SUV range.
Our dealership here in Victoria, has been one of the most popular dealers for Mazda vehicles in Australia. We offer a wide range of new Mazda cars to give Australians the best options for the vehicles they need for their lifestyle.
And because Mazda never stops innovating its Mazda vehicles, it has announced the newest addition to the Mazda SUV range, the new Mazda CX-90. Here's everything you need to know about the biggest SUV from Mazda.
The Mazda CX-90 launch date
Production has commenced for the Mazda CX-90 and it will be released in Australia between July and September or the third quarter of 2023.
At this current time, the CX-90 for the Australian market will not have the Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) engine option. However, buyers can choose between a 254/kW/500Nm 3.3-litre turbo-petrol inline six-cylinder or a 187kW/550Nm diesel-six engine.
Jeff Guyton, President and CEO of Mazda North American Operations, where the new Mazda CX-90 is being produced, explains the upcoming launch of the latest addition to the Mazda SUV range:
"At Mazda, our focus is to deliver an ownership experience that enriches the lives of our customers. With each new vehicle launch, we challenge ourselves to progress through our human-centric design and engineering approach."
He also adds that the CX-90 provides potent and prompt performance, captivating design, and user-friendly technology. The team is extremely proud of its efforts in creating the CX-90, as it is considered a pioneering vehicle in its market.
In terms of pricing, numbers are still yet to be announced. Still, Mazda Australia Managing Director Vinesh Bhindi said it's reasonable to expect that the Mazda CX-90 will be pricier than its predecessors. The latest CX-60 is worth at least $85,500 in the Australian market today.
Bhindi also adds that the CX-9 will still be part of the Mazda SUV range, although there's no guarantee that it will sell beyond 2023 due to its discontinuation in the United States.
The Mazda CX-90 specs
Although the new Mazda CX-90 will not be available until spring this year, we’ve been able to tease a few details of this flagship SUV. Here are some of the most important information you need to know if you plan to buy the biggest SUV Mazda has ever produced.
Interiors and cargo
The flagship Mazda CX-90 is already the most extensive SUV offering from Mazda, which means you have more room for passengers and cargo. It features a stylish cabin design that can comfortably accommodate up to eight passengers. But you can choose captain's chairs for the second row reducing the car's seating capacity to seven.
You can also expect the same luxurious touch with the car's upholstery. All of the CX-90's seats are wrapped in soft Nappa leather for utmost comfort, and the dashboard gets the same treatment with its fabric upholstery. This is if you choose the Premium Plus levels and beyond. But the more basic trims are also anything but basic because while they're not as expensive as Nappa leather, they're still as soft and stylish.
Engine and performance
The new Mazda CX-90 will be the first in the Mazda SUV range to use the new 3.3-litre inline-six engine with a 48-volt hybrid system. This six-cylinder engine is comparable to bigger SUVs like the Land Rover Range Rover Sport and BMW X5.
Although the CX-90 will still cater to the middle-class market in terms of pricing, buyers of this SUV will surely get a more premium vehicle close to those in the upper-class segment of the automotive industry. All Mazda CX-90 models will have an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive standard. This is one feature that really makes the CX-90 stand out from the rest of the Mazda SUV range.
Fuel economy
Much like the rest of the world, Australia is facing rising fuel prices – meaning fuel economy is in the forefront of every new-car buyers mind. The CX-90's inline-six is rated by the EPA for up to 24 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
Driving safety
The CX-90 will be equipped with a range of driver-assistance features that will make it one of the safest SUVs to take to the roads. This new technology, called i-Activesense, will include features like blind spot monitoring, automated emergency braking and standard adaptive cruise control.
Infotainment
The Mazda CX-90 is fitted with the company's latest infotainment interface, which is both intuitive and user-friendly. It has a 12.3- or 10.3-inch infotainment display on the dashboard that can be easily controlled by a click wheel on its centre console.
You also get a 7.0-inch digital gauge display and an eight-speaker stereo system that offers a great in-car entertainment experience. But if you want to go premium, you can add the 12-speaker Bose premium stereo for the ultimate infotainment for your CX-90.
The infotainment system is compatible with Android and Apple CarPlay, and you can also expect wireless connectivity for a more hands-free experience.
Warranty and maintenance
The full warranty and maintenance coverage of the new Mazda CX-90 is yet to be released however, buyers can expect a limited warranty covering three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty covering five years or 60,000 miles. Unfortunately, there's no complimentary scheduled maintenance for the CX-90, but that could change as the release date gets closer.
The Mazda CX-90 difference
There's a lot of anticipation for the new Mazda CX-90 due to it being the first SUV made with the all-new RWD-biased platform. This new addition to the Mazda SUV range follows the trend of large-vehicle formats ideal for better weight distribution.
The CX-90 also offers more options to fit every driver’s need and preference. Whether you prefer the basic model or want to splurge on the high-end one, Brighton Mazda is the best dealership to visit if you want to be one of the first to invest in the new Mazda CX-90.
